Ripon and Ripon Christian’s boys golf teams continued their early-season streak of good play Monday in the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Hilmar High at Stevinson Ranch Golf Club.

Nick Sharp placed second individually and led Ripon to a second-place finish with a team score of 356. Ripon Christian was third with a 356. Each of the 17 teams was allowed to field a maximum of five players with the top four accounting for scores.

Mountain View was the top squad with a 349, and Hilmar standout Landon Azevedo showed well on his home course with a 1-over-par 73 for medalist honors. Sharp carded a 79, and Bret Harte’s Scott Hatfield placed third with an 80.

It was a nice tune-up round for Ripon, which heads back to Stevinson Ranch on Thursday to square off with Hilmar in a pivotal Trans-Valley League match. Ripon is 4-0 so far in league.

The Indians overall shot a little higher than normal but did enough to edge their in-town rivals from Ripon Christian. Robby Figeroid checked in with a 91, Nathan Suender a 92 and Michael Miller a 94. Anthony Matthews’ 95 was the throwaway.

Ripon Christian was paced by Andrew Manes’ 84, good for fifth best individually. Kyle Colyn added an 88, while Jesse DeRousse had a solid 89. Vance Sipma rounded out the Knights’ scoring with a 103.
