Ripon High tops Hughson for Southern League golf victory

TURLOCK – Ripon persevered Wednesday to down Hughson 242-266 in Southern League golf action at the par-36 Turlock Country Club. 

“It wasn’t pretty but we got it done,” Indians coach Chris Musseman said. “It was a win we needed to get.”

Rhett Herrin earned medalist honors for Ripon at 41 followed by Justin Brito (48), Nico Ilardi (49), Luis Sandido (50) and Cole Stevens (54).

Lathrop (forfeit)

TRACY – Lathrop’s Christian Guzman earned medalist honor Wednesday at par-36 Old with a 39, but the Spartans were forced to forfeit the Valley Oak League match due to not having enough golfers.

Luke Marcelo added a 46 for Lathrop and Sebastian Iniquez shot a 61.

For Manteca, Dylan Haro led the way with a 46 followed by Adrian Gonzales (51), Matsua Garcia-Mendez (52), Isaac Bill (54) and Mark Buenrostro (55).

Weston Ranch 5,

East Union 4

Weston Ranch High slipped past East Union in Wednesday’s VOL match, 5-4.

The Lancers were forced to forfeit a pair of matches in doubles.

They were solid in singles play with No. 1 Jake Kramer sweeping the Cougars’ Ian Obiso in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

No. 2 singles player Hector Romero did likewise, defeating Malachi Moore, 6-3, 6-2.

Matthew Vadachira disposed of Weston Ranch’s No. 3 Noah Beltran in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Ryan Austin, the Lancers’ No. 4, needed a 7-5 tiebreaker to get past Brendan Lee, 6-4, 1-6.

Juan Pascual of Weston Ranch got the better of East Union’s No. 5 John Thomas, 6-2, 6-3.

The Cougars’ No. 1 team of Tony Arteaga and Jeremy Bagnus defeated Bryan Huizar and Andrew Sena in doubles action, 6-4, 6-4.
