Three tightly-contested matches went to third-set tiebreakers, and the two won by Riverbank proved to be the difference in Ripon High’s 6-3 Trans-Valley League loss at home Friday.

Ripon’s No. 1 girls singles player Shannon Wesley held up her end with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 comeback win over Gabby Macedo. The Indians (1-2) dropped the other two in doubles play.

Riverbank’s top boys tandem of Ernie Velasco and Chris Carrasco squeaked past William Hollingsworth and Steven DeFreitas, 5-6 (4-7), 7-5, 11-9. In the mixed doubles showdown, Ripon’s Bryce Coutrakis and Savannah Bickle fell to Juan Alfaro and Mago Manriquez, 7-5, 4-6, 4-10.

Riverbank (1-2) took another close one at No. 2 singles, where Javier Baltazar edged Ripon’s Nathan Machado, 7-5, 6-4.

Ripon claimed both girls doubles contests, with the Teresa Martinez-Hailey Rae Rose tandem prevailing, 6-3, 6-2; and Hailey Johnson-Alyssa Demara earning a 6-5 (7-2), 6-4 win.
