Ripon tops RC for third during Classics debut

In the inaugural edition of the Ripon Christian Girls Soccer Classic, Ripon defeated Ripon Christian 2-0 for third place on Saturday.

Alaina Cornilsen scored in the first half off an assist from Megan Johnson to give the Indians (5-4) a 1-0 lead. Cindy Alvarez scored in the second half off an assist from Alaina Cornilsen and  Courtney Slamon earned the shutout with two saves.

The Knights fall to 5-2. 

In semifinal action, Ripon fell 4-0 to eventual champion Vista del Lago of Folsom (5-2) and Ripon Christian lost 4-1 to Summerville (2-3).

With the Knights trailing the Bears 2-0 midway through the second half Rachel Faure was fouled by Summerville in the box and converted the penalty kick to draw Ripon Christian within 2-1. The Bears got two late goals to pull away.

Devon Denhart and Alvarez from Ripon were named to the all-tournament team as was Faure.

Sierra 4, Oakdale 1

The tournament host Timberwolves took a 2-0 lead and added a pair of goals in the second half for the championship.  

Jadyn Shinn and Minty Doyle each had a goal and an assist for Sierra (10-0-2). Daisy Valencia and Yasmin Ballew each added a goal with Yolanda Tavares and Calie Crain each adding an assist. 

Alyssa Rowe scored on an assist from Megan Burke for the Mustangs (6-2-2).

 

Sierra 0, Vacaville 0

After a scoreless tie and each team making four of five penalty kicks, Doyle converted the fifth for the Timberwolves and Emma Broderick followed that with her second penalty kick save of the day to send Sierra to the finals.

Broderick had eight saves in regulation. 

 

Weston Ranch 1,

Lathrop 0

The Cougars (4-1) edged the Spartans  (0-3-1) on a penalty kick by Lizbeth Ortiz. 

Weston Ranch went 3-1 in the tournament but was finished second in its bracket by Sonora which went 2-2 but edged the Spartans by points.

Mountain House 0

 Yvette Jaimes scored the lone goal for the Cougars on an assist from Liz Ortiz.

 

East Union 1, Lodi 0

 Ilena Rivera had the only goal for the Lancers (5-1) who finished the tournament 3-1. 

 

East Union 4,

Enochs-Modesto 0

Arianna Cardenas had a pair of goals for the Lancers.

Rivera and Julia Vigallon added a goal apiece for East Union.
