Manteca’s boys volleyball team wrapped up a busy three-day stretch on Wednesday with a third straight win, sweeping past Patterson 25-8, 25-13, 25-17 in Valley Oak League play.
Both teams came in with mirroring record, but the host Buffaloes improved to 2-0 in league and 9-2 overall.
Freshman setter Chandler Harris anchored the attack with seven kills and 22 assists. Logan Romriell added eight kills, while middle blocker Rob Hevener had seven.
Defensive specialist Racliff Figueroa amassed 18 service points, including three aces.
The Buffaloes will take next week off from match action and return on March 23 at home against defending champion Mountain House.
Mountain House 3, East Union 0
The Lancers (1-1, 5-7 overall) were swept by the reigning VOL champion Mustangs (1-0, 5-2) at Dalben Center, 16-25, 23-25, 15-25.
Gabe Estabillo led East Union with 12 kills, four service points and two blocks. Jacob Padilla added eight kills, two blocks and five digs. Setter John Apsay distributed 17 assists. Javier Sandoval netted nine digs The Lancers travel to Oakdale tonight.
BASEBALL
Oakdale 21, East Union 1 (5)
The Mustangs (4-1, 8-2 overall) bounced back from the series-opening loss in a big way, blasting out the gates with 12 runs in the second inning. They plated the first 20 runs of the game in just three innings.
While Oakdale tallied 22 hits, East Union (2-3, 7-5) was held to just two total by winning pitcher Christian Amerine and reliever Rex Silva, who ended the game with three consecutive strikeouts.
Ryder Tompkins knocked in Brayden Camara for EU’s lone run in the fourth inning.
Bas Stice highlighted the Mustangs attack, going 3 for 3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs. Chance Ravalin also went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Landon Schute (two runs, three RBIs) and Amerine (two runs, RBI) were both 2 for 2. Costa plated three runs and drove in two.
The rubber game is Friday at EU’s Agostini Field.
Mountain House 6, Sierra 1
The struggles continued for visiting Sierra (0-5 VOL, 4-7 overall), who were limited to three hits by Brayden Carpenter (nine strikeouts, two walks).
Mountain House (1-0, 8-2) busted out with a five-run fourth inning. The Timberwolves struck for its lone run in the sixth.
Hughson 16, Ripon 7
Visiting Ripon (0-1, 5-4 overall) could not keep up with the hot bats from Hughson (1-0, 4-5) in the Trans Valley League opener.
The Indians rallied for five runs in the top of the second for a 5-3 lead, but it was all Huskies from there.
Jake Haines hit a double and scored for Ripon. Frank Carter-Castro contributed two RBIs, while Landon Espinola, Luca Damiano and Hunter Weber knocked in one run apiece.
Ben de Clerq went 4 for 4 with a homer and five RBIs for Hughson. Tanner Ehlers contributed a 3-for-3 effort that included two doubles, four runs and two RBIs.
Ripon Christian 11, Hilmar 7
The Knights (1-0, 6-1 overall) started slow but scored nine runs in the final two frames to race away with the TVL-opening win.
Tyler Wadlow paced the attack for Ripon Christian with a double and three RBIs. Stadtler Postma went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Talen Tameling also knocked in a run and plated two others.
Sophomore Ethan Vander Plaats was the winning pitcher after logging 4 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Ripon Christian had just five hits but drew 10 walks. Hilmar (0-1, 5-3) doled out 11 hits while earning seven walks.
River Islands 18, Watsonville 3
The Riptide (5-3) rallied for 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning at Islanders Field.
George Dayeh (two doubles) and freshman Chase Salomon (doubled) provided three RBIs each. Aahlad Bysani finished 3 for 4 with with two RBIs.
Freshman Cassious Orndoff got the win, amassing 10 strikeouts in three innings.
SOFTBALL
Edison 5, Lathrop 4
In Stockton, Edison (5-6) registered three runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on from there.
Tianna Gonzalez sparked the Lathrop (3-2-1) offense with a double, two RBIs and two steals. Tatiana Lopez and freshman Shyla Miranda drove in one run apiece. Jamaiya Wilson went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for Edison.
Elliot Christian 4, Ripon Christian 3
Host Ripon Christian (1-4) came alive late after five scoreless innings but fell short of extending the non-league contest.
Annabelle Hoff paced the Elliot Christian (1-2) attack, going 4 for 4 with a run. Gianna Masellis produced a triple, a run and an RBI, while going 3 for 4. Austynn MacWilliams pitched in a triple, a run and two hits.
JV boys volleyball
Manteca 2, Patterson 1
Azan D’Anna hammered eight kills to help spearhead the Buffaloes’ 18-25, 25-21, 15-8 comeback.
Quintin DeCosta Aldape added four kills and four blocks. Libero Ryan Mu came up with seven digs.
Mountain House 2, East Union 0
The Lancers were swept, 15-25, 22-25.
Bryson Ramirez racked up five kills and two blocks. Isaiah Rodriguez chipped in two kills and two digs.
