ROUNDUP: East Union places 3rd in VOL golf tournament

East Union placed third in the second Valley Oak League boys golf tournament held Monday at Swenson Park Golf Course in Stockton.

The Lancers scored a 492 behind Kimball’s 447 and Oakdale’s 402. Low medalist Nolan Harris led three Oakdale players with sub-80 cards with a 1-over-par 73.

Cooper Rossi netted an 89 for East Union, good for the seventh best individual score overall. Nolan Mix followed him with a 93, Zane Salgado had a 98, Tony Agueda a 102 and Jayden Lopez a 110.

Manteca took fourth as a team with a 524. Connor DePrater and Zenon Garay led the Buffaloes with a 94 and 95, respectively.  Dakota Murillo (107), Xavier Hernandez (112) and Kaden MacDannald (116) round out the team’s score.

Sierra followed with a 582. Scoring contributors were Konor Spears (101), James Musquiz (107), Payton Robertson (119), Carson Murray (127) and Gabe Lazar (128).

Central Catholic took sixth with a 623. Weston Ranch was a player short of a legal team score. John Delacruz shot a 97 for the Cougars.

The next league tournament is April 4 at Tracy Country Club.

 

SOFTBALL

Central Catholic 1, Manteca 0

Emori Machado’s solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning was the difference for the host Raiders (2-0 VOL, 12-1-1 overall) at Rainbow Fields. It was the league opener for Manteca (0-1, 8-2), which has dropped back-to-back after winning its first eight of the season.

Randi Roelling starred in the pitcher’s duel, striking out 18 while facing only one over the minimum in her no-hit masterpiece. Baylee Willenbrink drew a walk to spoil the bid for perfection.

Sophomore Nayellys Torres went the distance inside the circle for Manteca. She finished with five strikeouts and scattered five hits and a walk.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Weston Ranch 3, Central Catholic 0

The Cougars (1-0, 8-7) opened their VOL schedule at home with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-15 sweep.

Setter Eleazar Nava anchored the attack with 20 assists, three kills and six aces. Sammy Seng added 10 assists.

Abraham Palacios tallied seven kills and six aces. Tommy Duong paced the defense with eight digs. Elijah Mobley chipped in five kills.

 

Ripon 3, Hilmar 0

Garrett Bright propelled the Indians (5-1, 10-5) to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-16 Trans-Valley League sweep with a double-double. He finished with 17 assists and 14 digs to go with five kills.

Jayson Ponce contributed 15 digs and five kills, while Martin Raygoza Romero had 15 and four. Hunter Adams spearheaded the attack with 11 kills.

 

Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0

The beat goes on for undefeated Lathrop (6-0, 15-0 overall), which rolled to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-13 Western Athletic Conference win.

Christian Green accumulated 14 kills and 10 digs. Arman John chipped in eight kills and six digs. Tory Sumbler tallied five kills and five aces to go with his 23 assists. Diego Sanchez led the defense with 12 digs.

 

JV boys volleyball

Ripon 2, Hilmar 0

The Indians rolled to a 25-10, 25-15 victory.

Fabien Cardenas served a team-high seven aces, while Ricky Langenfeld and Johnny Rey each had five. Anthony Gomez and Luis Gutierrez both set 10 assists.

 

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 0

Lathrop swept 25-22, 25-18 behind Marco Palomares’ six aces, five kills and five digs.

Caiden Wisnieski contributed four kills and five digs. Brandon Sanchez picked up 10 digs, and Charles Reyes handed out 20 assists.
