Manteca’s girls tennis team further secured its second-place standing in the Valley Oak League on Wednesday with a 6-3 win over visiting Oakdale.
Meanwhile, freshman Hailie Kim cemented her claim as the top player in the league after knocking off reigning VOL singles champion Riley Avila or a second time, 6-2, 6-0. The Buffaloes (7-1, 12-4-1 overall) swept all six singles matches, while Oakdale (5-2, 9-2) won three competitive doubles contests.
Shreya Raman won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4 over Madi McTague. No. 3 Saihaj Ghuman cruised past Holly Healy 6-1, 6-2, while No. 4 Paisley Coenenberg fended off Brea Magcalas, 6-4, 6-4. Rae Limbago (6-1, 6-0) and Ekam Ghuman (6-0, 6-1) made quick work of their opponents in the Nos. 5 and 6 matches.
Two of the doubles matches were decided in third sets. Manteca’s No. 1 tandem of Alyson Alvarado and Ryan Gomes came up short against Ysabella Victorio and Audrey Clark, 6-1, 3-6, 7-10. No. 3 Natalia Perez and Caitlynn Vu lost 6-4, 2-6, 2-10 to Kami Brazil and Liv Bernal. The No. 2 doubles match was won by Oakdale’s Bianca Padilla and Raylee Trent 6-3, 6-4 against Delailah Sanchez Torres and Zoey Pratt.
Manteca will have a break in match action and won’t play again until Oct. 14 against East Union at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Lathrop 35, Pacheco 0
Luz De Luna completed touchdown passes to five different receivers, completing 16 of 23 attempts in total for 190 yards. She was also successful on five point-after tosses for the host Spartans (7-1 Western Athletic Conference, 12-2 overall).
On the receiving end of those touchdowns were Moira Ramones, Tianna Gonzalez, Jaleiyah Ray, Melia Lewis and Aaliyah Thompson.
Angelique Gonzalez anchored the defense with seven tackles and a sack. Dayanna Martinez added six tackles, and Faith Allen had five to go with two pass deflections and an interception.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0
Siliana Fa’ataualofa tallied 11 kills, three aces, two assists, eight digs and a block to help Lathrop (8-0, 12-5 overall) sweep the WAC home match, 25-8, 25-12, 25-22.
Setter Ayden Petroff was also productive all-around, contributing 27 assists, three kills, eight aces and four digs. Erin Chunn (three aces, block, three digs) and Breana Wiseman (two blocks) hammered six kills apiece. Shakara Porter pitched in three blocks and two kills.
Justine Mabutas led the back line with 10 digs, and Jadore Dixon added nine.
CROSS COUNTRY
WAC meet No. 2
Lathrop’s varsity boys and girls teams both placed fourth at River Bluff Regional Park in Ceres.
Riley Gier paced the boys, placing seventh in 17 minutes, 27.14 seconds. Mackenzie Collins led the girls in ninth place, clocking in at 22:19.86.
Emily Zukoski helped Lathrop’s girls frosh-soph team win, and she finished the 2.1-mile course with a first-place time of 16:00.58.

Audrina Fisher fired 12 kills, while Andrea Lemus added nine to spearhead the Spartans’ 23-25, 25-15, 15-11 comeback victory.
Alexza Bringas orchestrated the attack with 17 assists. Cassidy Fa’ali’i had seven assists to go with two kills and a block. Irshbir Bisla had four kills and two aces. Lilyana Murillo picked up six digs.

Aviahna Calderon completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Madilynn Nungaray and also ran one in from 6 yards out.
Vanecia Rodriguez and Jasmine Elayba also had rushing TDs. Defensively, Alyssa Herrera racked up five tackles, a pass deflection and an interception. Arlette Quiroz and Kathryn Guerrero each also had an interception.
Frosh girls volleyball
Lathrop 2, Pacheco 1
Lathrop held on for the 19-25, 25-10, 15-10 win, getting 10 service aces and four assists from Juliet Tara.
Zakia Booker contributed five kills and two aces. Ariannah Sheel chimed in with seven digs and three aces.
