Lathrop was on the attack from the outset on Thursday, and Alex Jauregui totaled five goal contributions in an 8-1 trouncing of Grace Davis in the Western Athletic Conference boys soccer game at Bennie Gatto Field.
The first-place Spartans (7-1-1, 15-3-2 overall) blew open a four-goal lead in the first 20 minutes. Davis (1-8, 2-13) responded with its lone goal, scoring on a breakaway following a corner kick from Lathrop.
Jauregui, a sophomore who started at the striker spot, led the way with three goals and two assists.
Andres Hurtado Garcia pitched in with one goal and two assists.
Freshman Emiliano Enriquez, Alan Hernandez and Victor Salvador added one goal apiece. Eduardo Torres capped the barrage with a corner-kick header. Diego Alvarez delivered the cross.
Lathrop will look to keep its spot at the top of the conference tackle next Tuesday at Ceres.
Manteca 2, Oakdale 1
Eli Navarro buried a late penalty kick at Guss Schmiedt Field, as the host Buffaloes (3-4, 9-8-4 overall) eked out the Valley Oak League victory.
Anthony Espinosa gave Manteca an early lead, finishing after a pass from Adrian Anaya in the ninth minute. Oakdale (2-6, 5-13) responded with the equalizer a few minutes later.
Alberto Gutierrez had two saves between the posts for Manteca.
Sierra 11, Central Catholic 0
Jose Gonzalez registered four goals and an assist to lead Sierra’s VOL blowout at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.
Kevin Gracia, Johan Arroyo, Preston Gallegos and Aydin Akca added one goal and two assists for the Timberwolves (6-2, 8-7 overall).
Neddy Ramos chipped in one goal and one assist. Sean Guevara and Gerardo Luviano scored one goal apiece. Jose Gonzales and Axzel Razo each had an assist.
Sierra also won the JV match, 4-1.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ripon Christian 81, Orestimba 39
All 11 players contributed with points for host Ripon Christian (5-0, 11-9 overall), which continues its run from the top of the Trans Valley League standings.
Chase Bunnell scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the first half. Jake Vander Veen and Amos Cady added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Josiah Van Vliet buried three 3s for his nine points. Jeremy Malloy hit two 3s and scored eight points in the final period.
Orestimba (0-5, 6-15) was led by Rudy Corona’s 22 points.
Escalon 57, Ripon 45
The visiting Indians (1-4 TVL, 6-15 overall) poured in 24 points in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Logan Huebner’s 28-point outburst for Escalon (3-2, 12-9).
Sam Stewart made three second-half 3s and paced Ripon with 15 points. Gino Calderara, in his first game back from an ankle injury, scored all nine of his points in the second half. AJ Vanderwerff produced nine points and seven rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
East Union 45, Mountain House 27
Trailing 23-21, VOL-leading East Union (7-0 VOL, 19-4 overall) held the host Mustangs (0-6, 7-15) to just two points in each of the final two periods.
Ava Barrera led the fourth-quarter surge that turned it into a blowout, accounting for eight of the Lancers’ 15 points. She finished with a game-high 12 points to go with nine rebounds.
Shebra Rezaye hit two early 3s and ended with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Jerney Luckett contributed nine points and six rebounds, while Zyondupree Beasley had eight points and 11 boards.
Grace Beasly scored 12 points for Mountain House, posting 10 of them in the second quarter.
Lathrop 65, Beyer 23
The undefeated Spartans (7-0 WAC, 21-0 overall) exploded for a 27-4 first-quarter lead. Eleven of 13 players scored for Lathrop, and the team amassed 32 steals.
Shakara Porter collected 16 points, six rebounds and six steals. Breanna Wiseman chimed in with 10 points, and Jaleiyah Ray added nine points and five steals. Jaylah Seabron and Zakia Booker contributed seven points apiece.
Ripon Christian 36, Orestimba 32
In Newman, Bella Arganbright poured in a season-high 19 points. Vanessa Orozco chipped in six points for the visiting Knights (2-3 TVL, 7-10 overall).

Matthew Xochifa got the Spartans rolling, and Eduardo Juan Guzman converted on a free kick. Jorge Rueda scored the insurance goal set up by Dylan Beltran.

Alfredo Pina and Mikey Rodriguez found the net for the Buffaloes (2-3-2 VOL, 7-10-3 overall).

East Union 47, Mountain House 30
Camille Christensen scored her game-high 14 points in the first three quarters, as the first-place Lancers rolled to the VOL win.
Elle Baluyut drilled a pair of 3s on her way to 12 points. Lilyan Frye pitched in with eight points.
Lathrop 59, Beyer 8
The first-place Spartans dominated the WAC contest on both ends of the court, coming away with 32 steals.
Zoha Ali led the two-way effort with 17 points, eight steals, five rebounds, three assists and a block. Faith Allen added 16 points and three steals. Hazel Beltran netted 13 points and three steals. Sariah Hilton produced seven points, five assists, nine steals and four rebounds.
