PATTERSON — Lathrop High’s boys golf team put together its best round of the season Friday during the Western Athletic Conference Mid-Season Tournament held at Diablo Grande.
Headed by Luke Marcello’s runner-up finish, the Spartans placed fourth out of the eight teams with a 471. They came into the event with a 1-3 record in league duals but made up some ground with the tourney effort — three points are awarded for each team beaten. The top three teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament.
Marcello scored a 5-over 77, earning a second-place tie with Johansen’s Dylan Dharma. Ceres’ Gary Condit was low medalist with a 74. Johansen ended as the top team with a 454 and was followed by Ceres (462) and Los Banos (471).
Sebastian Iniguez contributed a 97 for Lathrop. Andrew Lam and Salvador Reyes each added a 98, and John Wall Jr. ended with a 121.

STOCKTON — The visiting Jaguars (3-1 Valley Oak League, 10-3 overall) scored five runs in the second inning, and that was enough for ace pitcher Gabe Cortinas.
Cortinas registered 10 strikeouts in his three-hit performance.
Weston Ranch (0-4, 8-8) committed seven errors and was limited to one hit through six innings. David Baca prevented the shutout with his two-run double that plated Austin Cappas and Amier Bowen. Cappas started the inning with a double.
It doesn’t get easier for the Cougars, who face league-leading Sierra next week.
