ROUNDUP: Manteca baseball drubs Los Banos; Ripon girls win swim opener

Manteca scratched across three runs in the top of the first inning of its non-league baseball game at Los Banos on Tuesday, but the Buffaloes were just getting started.

They went on to break it open with an eight-run blitz and plated five more in the fifth for a 16-0 victory in five innings.

Manteca (3-2) mashed 11 hits in all and was aided by nine walks and four errors. Pitchers Zach Todd and Amrit Dehal combined for the mercy-shortened one-hitter. Todd registered seven strikeouts and two walks over four innings, and Dehal struck out one in a perfect fifth inning.

Todd was also 1-for-2 with two walks, a double, a run and an RBI on offense. Emiliano Cruz led the attack, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Rex Watson finished 2-for-3 with a double and three runs. Carson Smith also contributed two hits and three runs.

 

GIRLS SWIMMING

Ripon 100, Oakdale 70

Kennedy Brubaker won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events in the Valley Oak League opener at Oakdale last Friday, clocking qualifying times for the Sac-Joaquin Section varsity trials. She was also part of the winning 400 free relay with Valerie Chun, Samantha Scheid and Mia Sickler-Lopez.

Scheid (100 butterfly) and Sickler-Lopez (100 free) also had one individual win apiece. Crystallynn Tran spearheaded a 1-2-3 Ripon sweep in the 100 back. Hailey Knief contributed a win in the 50 free.

 

BOYS SWIMMING

Ripon 83, Oakdale 83

Michael Chavez swam to SJS-qualifying times in winning the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.

Ryan Bell led a 1-2-3 all-Ripon finish in the 500 free. Ben Svoboda (200 free), Brody Biederman (100 back) and Teo West (100 breast) contributed first-place points.

Ripon won the 200 medley (Chetan Harvey, Ben Rodgers, McKeane Beier, James Wilkins) and 200 free (Ben Rodgers, Biederman, Svoboda, Beier) relays

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

West 3, Manteca 2

Manteca (1-2) dropped a competitive non-league match to visiting West (5-1) of Tracy, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 14-25, 8-15.

Setter Jonathan Rosas distributed 33 assists and served two aces for the Buffaloes. Camden Steckler pounded out 12 kills to go with three blocks.

Manteca heads to Tracy on Thursday.

 

Lathrop 3, Stagg 0

Tory Sumbler amassed 30 assists, 11 aces, three kills and seven digs, as host Lathrop (5-0) held on for a 25-9, 26-24, 25-13 non-league sweep.

Christian Green blasted 13 kills and had six digs and two aces. Jerico Santillan chipped in seven kills and six aces. Arman John and Christopher Millan added four kills apiece. Lucas Baluyut and Diego Sanchez picked up 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

 

JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, West 0

Yahir Martinez tallied two kills, four assists and five aces to anchor Manteca’s 25-19, 25-15 sweep of the Wolf Pack.

Fernando Lopez added five assists and three aces. Micah Crawford contributed four kills.

 

JV girls swimming

Ripon 89, Oakdale 58

Kacey Kerr (100 free) and Malia Locarnini (50 back) led 1-2-3 sweeps for Ripon in their respective events. Tristen Hunter chipped in a victory in the 50 free. The Indians were also victorious in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
