ROSEVILLE — Valley Oak League doubles champions Solman Aniss and Kurtis Ma rolled through the first two rounds of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Tournament at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club on Wednesday.
Sierra’s Kyle Banks made it as singles competitor and was eliminated in the first round but put up a good fight against a seeded opponent.
Manteca High’s Aniss-Ma tandem opened with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Patterson’s Chris Tapia and Lolyn Tejeda. They then vanquished Cooper Freese and Brad Gray of Vacaville, 6-3, 6-0.
“We had a solid day winning the first- and second-round matches,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. “Solman and Kurtis took care of business in playing dominant doubles today. We served well, returned well and played well at the net. It gave the guys a chance to compete on Day 2.”
Aniss and Ma return to Johnson Ranch today for the semifinals. They’ll square off with either Ian Ng/Samyak Surti of Vista del Lago or Zuriel Joven/Henry Walker of West Campus.
Banks drew No. 4-seeded Hunter Bradac of Dixon in the singles bracket. He was swept, 5-7, 2-6.
