ROUNDUP: Spartans handle Escalon for 3rd flag football win in 3 days

The Lathrop flag football team capped a busy stretch on Thursday with a 30-12 win at Escalon.

The Spartans (3-1) won three games in as many days, all of them on the road. Their week was jump started by a last-second win at East Union on Tuesday.

Jaleiyah Ray once again flashed her big-play ability, scoring on a 26-yard interception return and a 57-yard catch. Aaliyah Thompson was also a two-way contributing, scoring two touchdowns while coming up with a sack.

Quarterback Luz De Luna completed 10 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Angelique Gonzalez paced the defense with 13 tackles, and Faith Butler had seven.


GIRLS GOLF

Lathrop 261, Pacheco 306

Fourth-year player Kate Albisu scored a 54 to lead the Spartans in their Western Athletic Conference opener at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Teammate Ashley Abon Garcia was the overall runner-up with a 61. Pacheco’s Bella Preciado was third with a 64.

Savanna Quezada (72), Kriselle Matela (74) and Evangelina Quezada (76) also scored for Lathrop.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Manteca 8, Downey 1

In Modesto, Hailie Kim, Shreya Raman and Paisley Coenenberg dominated en route to 6-0, 6-0 victories in the non-league match.

Saihaj Ghuman won the No. 3 match, 6-1, 6-0. No. 5 Rae Limbago warded off Esme Mejia Alvarez to claim the No. 5 match, and Ekam Ghuman rounded out singles play, 6-0, 6-1.

The doubles matches were far more competitive.

Downey got its lone win at No. 1 doubles, as Alex Cassago and Peyton Ybanez outlasted Manteca’s Alyson Alvardo and Caitlynn Vu, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.

Manteca’s No. 2 tandem of Delilah Sanchez Torres and Ryan Gomes won 6-3, 6-4, while Danna Padilla and Ziqi Huang prevailed, 6-4, 6-4.

Avainha Calderon’s touchdown pass to Ailyn Alcaraz was the difference for Lathrop.

Alcaraz finished with three catches for 41 yards.

Jayla Seabron and Alyssa Herrera recorded four tackles apiece.
