ROUNDUP: T’wolves thump Weston Ranch for third straight baseball win

 The Sierra baseball team notched its third straight win Friday, crushing for Valley Oak League rival Weston Ranch 11-3 at home.

The Timberwolves (3-1) had seven hits but were aided by nine walks, four hit batters and five errors. They scored five runs in the third inning to break it open and led 9-1 after four.

Troy Morrow highlighted the attack with a two-run homer. Ricardo Anaya went 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run. Rudy Barney and Ryan West (doubled) each plated a pair of runs and drove in another.

Starting pitcher Nikko Camerena struck out three in four innings, giving up a run on four hits. Josh Seals threw the next three innings (two hits, two runs, three BBs, two Ks), and Druw Navarro fanned two in the seventh.

Jordan Paris and Ayden Tinsley both had two hits for Weston Ranch (3-4).


East Union 4, Escalon 1

The Lancers (6-1) continued their strong start to the season, fending off winless Escalon (0-7) at Agostini Field.

Freshman Joe Alvarez pitched five scoreless innings for the win, firing seven strikeouts against no walks and a hit. Zach Grabowski struck out two in a perfect seventh-inning appearance for the save.

Blake Mount went 2 for 3 with a double and a run, while Kirk Simoni finished 2 for 2 with a run.


Manteca 8, Bear Creek 1

The Buffaloes (5-0-1) busted out with four runs in the home half of the first inning and plated four more in the sixth.

Sophomore pitcher Cameron Jimenez went the distance, striking out four while giving up two walks in his two-hit gem.

Jace Quitasol drove in three runs, and Edward Anthony scored twice.


Atwater 2, Ripon 1

Dawson Downs was the hard-luck loser for the visiting Indians (2-2).

He hit a solo homer to give Ripon the lead in the top of the third inning. It was short-lived, as Atwater (2-5) plated two unearned runs in the bottom half.

From the mound, Downs surrendered six hits and three walks over six innings, striking out four.


SOFTBALL

Ripon 8, Atwater 2

Pitching ace Kharime Caratachea and Ripon (4-0) gave up their first runs of the season, both coming in the first inning.

The visiting Falcons (1-7) got their attention right away, as Kylie Medina led off with a triple and was driven in by Riley Leonardo. Leonardo then scored on an error.

Ripon quickly responded and led 4-2 after the second inning, while Caratachea dominated the rest of the way with 13 strikeouts.

Jaycee Wilmshurst plated three runs in the first four innings, finishing 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Addison Naranjo went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Alana Hernandez contributed a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs.


COED TENNIS

Ripon 8, Millennium 1

The Indians started Trans-Valley League play with a lopsided home win.

Standout Sahaj Gil blanked Adam Su in the No. 1 boys singles match, 6-0, 60. Levi Lundrigan (6-0, 6-2) took the No. 2 boys match, while Lily Meyer prevailed at No. 1 girls singles in a forfeiture.

Doubles belonged to Ripon, getting straight-set victories from No. 1 boys Gideon Waters/Tate Doublas (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 boys (Samuel Avendano Avila, Santiago Avendano Avila (6-4, 6-0), No. 2 girls (Mia Blancarte/Ella Parsons (6-2, 6-0) and mixed Matthew Tharakan/Hailey Williford (6-4, 6-0).

Giselle Luna and Natalie Vu won the No. 1 girls doubles contest in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Franklin 0

Gabriel Fa’ali’i rung up 15 kills, three aces, six digs and two solo blocks, as the Spartans (4-2) coasted 25-18, 25-11, 25-10 in the non-league road win.

Alexander Vere contributed 22 assists and two aces to the attack. Defensive specialist Charles Reyes had 17 digs and five aces. Marco Palomares chipped in five kills, eight digs and two aces. Cameron Loyola had three kills and two digs.


JV boys

Lathrop 2, Franklin 0

The Spartans held on for the 25-11, 25-20 sweep.

Gurmukh Singh led them with five kills, five aces and three digs. Richard Truong tallied four kills, while Cayden Phaing had three to go with two digs and an ace.

Mario Luna dished out 13 assists and served a pair of aces. Josh Ramirez picked up 10 digs.
