The Manteca girls tennis team continued its quest for a third straight undefeated run in the Valley Oak League on Tuesday, sinking Sierra 8-1 at the Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
Reigning VOL individual champion Kaitlyn Rausa picked up the lone win for Sierra (3-5), defeating Julia Tang 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match.
The rest belonged to the Buffaloes (8-0, 11-0 overall), who have not lost a league match since placing second in 2015. No. 3 Ellie Kim, a transfer from Sierra, played against her old school for the time and beat Melanie Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0. Sahiba Kaur fended off Nadia Petrovic 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles in the most competitive match of the day.
Makenna Condit (6-1, 6-1), Navinna Mann (6-3, 6-1) and Kerren Zou (6-1, 6-0) contributed to the singles dominance. Manteca’s doubles were also on their game, getting victories from Noeli Mercado/Melissa Poncini (6-1, 6-1), Yanki Ma/Kalissa Martin (6-0, 6-0) and Isabella Huerta/Danielle Diaz (6-0, 6-2).
Mtn. House 9, Lathrop 0
Lathrop (2-5) had a tough go against the Western Athletic Conference’s top squad.
Darlene Hoang put forth a valiant effort at No. 1 singles before dropping a 6-7, 1-6 decision to Elyse Low. Mountain House (7-0) swept 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match and all three doubles contests.
VOL GOLF
TRACY — East Union, Manteca, Sierra and Weston Ranch did not tally qualifying scores in the third Valley Oak League match of the season Tuesday at Tracy Golf & Country Club.
Oakdale was once again the top team, finishing with a 438 in front of Kimball (521) and Central Catholic (604). Low medalist Taylor Stewart led Oakdale with an 82. Madison Blanc (86), Makayla Christiansen (89), Andrea York (90), Allie Denning (91) and Lynn Layton (91). Followed. Kayla Naldo carded a 91 for Kimball, and teammate Rachel Maxfield contributed a 93.
The fourth and final regular-season VOL match takes place Oct. 8 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club. The finale is set for Oct. 15 at Manteca Park Golf Course.
