The Vern Gebhardt Champions Cup was there to be taken for Sierra, but it wasn’t meant to be as the Timberwolves dropped its final game 3-1 to Enochs High on Saturday.

The Timberwolves (4-2-2) rallied to get beyond the Tracy Bulldogs with a 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks, but proved no match for Enochs.

Sierra got its only goal from Naomi Nunis in the second half after going into halftime trailing Enochs 2-0. Sydnee Canales tallied the assist.

Nunis also netted Sierra’s only goal in regulation against Tracy. The Timberwolves are getting superb play out of freshman keeper Emma Broderick, who racked up 11 saves in two games Saturday, after posting a shutout in the tournament’s opener.

Sierra will try and push the momentum from a solid Cup showing right into the Valley Oak League opener Tuesday against the Lathrop Spartans.
