Hunter Frisk will be a Muskie.

The Sierra High senior inked his National Letter of Intent Thursday to play baseball for Lakeland University in Wisconsin.

“Everybody has told me to dress warm,” he said at the special signing event held in the school library.

Frisk was joined by his family — included were parents, Rebecca and Jason Frisk, younger brother Austin, along with grandparents and other relatives — school administrators, friends, and his Timberwolves teammates and coaches, to name a few.

“Hunter has a passion for the game,” said Sierra baseball coach Jack Thomson. “He also has the grades to play (college baseball).”

Frisk, who visited the campus located in Plymouth in November, found Lakeland to his liking. He was also looking at Boise State. The latter wasn’t offering him an athletic scholarship.

“My decision was that I still want to play baseball,” said Frisk, who is a first baseman for Sierra under Thomson. He’s batting .538 with a team-high seven hits and four RBIs through four pre-league contests. Frisk earned honorable mention on the All-Valley Oak League team last year after hitting for a .291 average with 23 hits and 12 RBIs. He also boasted a .986 fielding percentage. 

The Muskies play in the NCAA Division III Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference against the likes of Concordia Chicago, Dominican, Aurora, Benedictine, Edgewood, and Rockford. They are currently 4-3. 

Lakeland is led by seventh-year head coach Mike Bachar, a 2005 graduate of the university. 

“This was a long time coming,” said Jason Frisk, who also applauded his son’s efforts in the classroom. “It’s been years of hard work for him.”

Hunter Frisk is looking to major in Exercise Science. He hopes to get into physical therapy or serve as athletic trainer.

On the field, Frisk is described as a “good left-handed hitter,” said Thomson.

“I think Lakeland is a good fit for Hunter,” he added.
