SOCCER: Buffs blitz Weston Ranch early, often in VOL soccer win

Freshman Cameron Silva compiled four goals and assisted one on Wednesday, leading the Manteca girls soccer team’s 11-0 drubbing of host Weston Ranch.
The Buffaloes (3-1-1 Valley Oak League, 12-1-3 overall) scored nine of their goals in the first half and totaled 24 shots.
“That is a really fast team we played against tonight,” Weston Ranch coach Gabe Padilla said. “We came out flat-footed and they punched us in the mouth. They got four goals in the first 10 minutes and we never recovered from that.”
Kaylee Gines added two goals and one assist. Isabella Avila chipped in one goal and two assists. Esmeralda Ochoa (goal), MaryAnne Bueno (goal), Melissa Poncini (goal), Jenna Poncini (goal, assist), Jordyn Silva (two assists) and Caitlynn Wong (assist) aided the attack.
Weston Ranch (0-5, 0-11-2) was highlighted by Kehura Ellerbe’s 11 saves. The Cougars wrap up the first half of VOL play Friday at first-place Sierra, and Manteca plays host to rival East Union.

Ripon 4, Riverbank 1
RIVERBANK — The Trans-Valley League-leading Indians (3-0, 11-3-1 overall) dominated the first half but only had a 1-0 lead to show for it.
They pulled away in the second half with Ariana Scholten leading the way. She buried a penalty kick in the 55th minute and delivered the corner-kick cross headed in by defender Kailey Tijero in the 70th. Sheylyn Pokorny answered Riverbank’s last-minute goal, with Daisy Candido on the assist.
Hailey Peterson notched Ripon’s lone first-half goal after receiving a through pass from Aubree Pelon.

Lathrop 1, Johansen 1
MODESTO — Lathrop (2-2-2, 3-11-2 overall) remains in position to capture a top-three spot in the Western Athletic Conference as well as a postseason berth.
Alessandra Giordano netted the equalizer for the Spartans, heading in a cross from Aryana Jones. Goalies Christina Solorio and Julia Odom combined for five saves.

BOYS SOCCER
Johansen 7, Lathrop 1

Hector Alvarez registered the lone goal for Lathrop (1-3 WAC, 3-8-1 overall). Johansen also won the junior varsity match, 7-0.

JV girls soccer
Ripon 8, Hilmar 1

Taylor Burton accumulated four goals, while Teagan Rosales dished out four assists to help Ripon put away a one-sided TVL win on Tuesday.
Other scoring contributors: Natalie Johnson (goal, assist), Danielle Deulus (goal assist), Makenna Pokorny (goal), Danika Matuska (goal) and Gabbi Ilardi (assist). Goalkeeper Peyton Naranjo had one save.
