SONORA — Sonora got its revenge.

Again.

The Wildcats edged Weston Ranch for the second time in seven days, this time by a 4-3 margin in Valley Oak League play Friday at Standard Park.

Jacee Malone closed the book on the contest with a bases-loaded gapper to left center, scoring Amanda Tye for the winning run for Sonora (2-8, 9-12 overall) in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the Nor-Cal Classic in Tracy last Saturday, April 18, the Wildcats upended Weston Ranch, which plated five in the seventh to tie it, 6-5 in the final inning of regulation.

Weston Ranch (1-9, 3-16) previously defeated Sonora 8-6 in their first regular-season contest.

Serena Hernandez  (double) and Angelysa Washington each batted 2 for 4 for the Cougars, and Raquel Barrientos finished 2 for 3.

Kalina Westbrook gave Weston Ranch the game’s first lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, driving in Natalie Wood.

Alexandria Alvarado scored in the fifth to double the cushion, and Charmain Calub plated the tying run in the top of the seventh after Sonora stole the lead with three unearned runs in the sixth.

Washington had one of her best outings from the chalked circle Friday, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and three walks. She also struck out four.

“Angelysa pitched very well, she hit her spots and she did what she was supposed to do,” Weston Ranch coach Melanie Berezay said. “We just left too many runners on base, and that’s what’s hurting us right now.”

Weston Ranch twice struck out to end innings with the bases loaded.

The Cougars will look to bounce back against Manteca at home Wednesday.

In Ceres, Manteca (2-8, 5-14) led by a run after one, but Central Valley (5-5, 9-14) took the lead for good in the second after Alyssa Meshach highlighted the five-run barrage with a three-RBI homer.

The Buffaloes had a chance to knot it in the top of the seventh but left a runner stranded on third base. Manteca ended up leaving 11 runners on and committed four errors, which led to three unearned runs, on defense.

“We kept fighting and got runners on, we just couldn’t get that one key hit,” Manteca coach Todd Hardcastle said. “But I’m just proud of how we never gave up. The girls are playing a lot better right now.”

Trina Solario was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, two of which came off a triple. Chander Rose also smashed a two-run triple, finishing 2 for 3. Chellsee Lee ended up 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Solario did her best to keep her team in it from the pitcher’s circle, as she scattered 10 hits while striking out four and walking three.
