Ripon’s Madeline Staley notched three Sac-Joaquin Section-qualifying times Saturday in the Ervin Zador Invitational at Ripon High’s Ervin Zador Aquatic Center.

Staley won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 3.29 seconds), was on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team with Valerie Chun, Adriana Dorn and Mia Sickler-Lopez (3:58.04) and the third-place 200 medley relay team with Crystallynn Tran, Danica Brar and Valerie Chun (2:03.32) with all three times qualifying for the sections. She finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.53).

“I won the 200 free,” Staley said. “We came close to winning the medley and we won the 400 relay.

“I feel great. I actually performed a lot better than I thought I would.”

Sierra’s Jennifer Graves just missed section-qualifying times in the girls 200 freestyle (second, 2:04.07) and 500 freestyle (first, 5:37.51). She was on the fourth-place 400 free relay team (4:27.16) and eighth-place 200 medley relay team (2:21.39).

“This was my first time swimming the 200 free this year,” Graves said. “And I just need to drop seven seconds in the 500 free and I will qualify for sections in that.”

Ripon Christian’s Faith Fasani won both the girls 50 freestyle (25.16) and 100 freestyle (57.06). Both were season-best with the 50 free qualifying for sections and the 100 free just missing being section-qualifying.

“There were better teams here so I had good competition,” Fasani said. “I was pushed hard today.”

Ripon’s McKeane Beier was on the boys winning 400 free relay team Michael Chavez, Owen Curtiss and Chetan Harvey with a section-qualifying time of 3:32.07. He was second in the 200 free (1:59.74), was on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay with Harvey, Matthew Lee and C.J. Clevenger (1:43.49) and ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:04.68).

“I did pretty well today,” Beier said. “I felt pretty good throughout the day.

“It was pretty fun and it was kind of a low-key day, not a lot of stress.”

Other top-three area finishers are from the Ripon girls: Chun (100 butterfly, 1:01.79, first, section-qualifying; 200 freestyle, third, 2:04.72), Tran (100 butterfly, 1:02.78, second, section qualifying) and the 200 free relay (first, 1:51.56, Sickler-Lopez, Dorn, Chloe Price, Brar).

Ripon boys top-three finishers were Michael Chavez (100 butterfly, first, 53.94, section qualifying; 200 medley, first, 2:03.70, section-qualifying) and Curtiss (100 freestyle, first, 52.57).
