TRACK & FIELD: Manteca boys, Ripon girls win SJ County track meet

 Spearheaded by sprinter Julian Moncada, distance runner Oscar Angel and jump specialist Bryson Davis, the Manteca boys track and field team took first place Friday in the San Joaquin County Meet hosted at Tracy High’s Wayne Schneider Stadium.

The Buffaloes topped the 10-team field with 104 points with Ripon coming in second with 89.5

Ripon took the girls title behind four-event winner Starla Skiles. The Indians outpointed host Tracy 114-111.5.

The top seven placers in each event qualifies for the Tri-County Clash held March 22 at Oakdale, where they’ll face athletes from Merced and Stanislaus counties.

Manteca’s boys team claimed the Timberwolf Invitational championship last weekend, with Moncada leading the charge. On Friday, he won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.04 and 22.54 seconds, respectively and was part of the runner-up 4x400 relay (3 minutes, 32.89 seconds) with Alijah Marshall, Dario Rodriguez and Jayden Scarver.

Angel paced to wins in the 1,600 (4:27.84) and 3,200 (9:43.82), clocking personal records in both.

In field events, Davis was a double winner with PRs in the long jump (22-2) and triple jump (43-5). Christopher King won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 49 feet, 9.5 inches, edging out East Union’s Sebastian Arrizano by 5 inches.

Arrizano was among EU’s top performers, as he also took fourth in the discus (124-8). He set personal records in both events.

Sophomore Jackson Fay took second in the 100 (11.12) and third in the 200 (23.10), while Cesar Salinas placed second in the 400 (51.45) and fourth in the 200 (23.37). The tandem also led the Lancers’ relays, winning the 4x100 in 43.06 seconds with JP Abrew and Anthony Morales. Juan Toscano joined Fay, Morales and Salinas on the fourth-place mile relay.

Lathrop, which tied Tracy for fourth place with 78 points, was anchored by hurdling standout Adonis Siga, who cruised to wins in the 110 (15.24) and 300 hurdles (40.26). He also led the winning 4x400 relay (3:32.87) that included Jimari Dove, Malachi Gonzales and Charles Wright.

Other top-three placers for the Spartans: Andres Hurtado (third, 1,600, 4:38.91), Dominic Corral (second, discus, 140-7), Raymond Carson (third, high jump, 6-2) and Gavin Miller (second, pole vault, 12-6).

For Ripon, Devin Fitzpatrick (2:01.75) and Luke Bair (2:06.10) went 1-2 in the 800. Fitzpatrick was also fourth in the 3,200 (10:22.25).

Marcus Madoski was the runner-up with PRs in the high jump (6-2) and triple jump (43-3). Brett Shaw took second with a PR in the 300 hurdles (41.84) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.11). Eric Guevara finished third in the pole vault (11-6).

Skiles was the female performer from the area with first-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (PR 15.61) and 300 hurdles (47.29). She was also on the winning 4x100 relay (50.57) with Rylee Agbayani-Duenas, Olivia Maragos and Emily Paxton, and the winning 4x400 relay (4:13.30) with Clara Schoolland, Jenna Skavdahl and Clara Schoolland.

Skavdahl added first-place points in the 400 (1:02.12). Schoolland won the high jump (5-2) and was fourth in the 400 (1:03.89) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (49.92).

Jade Thommes (second, high jump, 5-0; third, pole vault, 9-6) and Maragos (second, long jump, 16-0) had top-three marks in field events.

Manteca finished third in the team standings with 94.5 points behind double winner Genesis Mailangi, who PR’d in the discus with a throw of 119-0. She won the shot put with a 34-11.

Jada Ikharo took second in the triple jump (34-2), and Rylan Steckler was the pole vault runner-up (9-6).

The Buffaloes also got key contributions in the distance events from freshman Paisley Coenenberg (third, 800, 2:41.17); second, 1,600, 5:45.54) and Jordyn Hegarty (second, 800, 2:39.45; fourth, 1,600, 5:48.41).

Janessa Ward of Lathrop won the 100 in 12.89. She also led the Spartans’ 4x100 (51.06) to a third place finish along with Sierra Adams, Melia Lewis and Tatiana Lowery.

Moira Ramones took third in the triple jump with a PR 33-9.

East Union’s Mariela Navarro also medaled, taking third in the long jump with a personal-best 15-11.
