Going into the fifth inning, Sierra was right where it wanted to be. That changed in the fifth and one more for the worse in the sixth, as the Timberwolves surrendered a late lead in a 4-2 loss to Atwater High Friday.

Sierra was up 2-1 and one out away from getting out of the fifth when Atwater collected a two-out single to tie things up. The trend would continue when Atwater would inflict another two-out blow, collecting the final two runs with two down in the sixth.

“We played well today,” Sierra head coach Jack Thomson said. “Pitched well and threw strikes, we just didn’t do enough little things to win. It was a good test, they are a good team and we played competitively.

“If we keep working hard I think we are heading in the right direction.”

Kyle Oden had a double and a RBI for Sierra (2-2-1).

The Timberwolves will be back on the diamond Wednesday when they host Cosumnes Oaks.

Tokay 8, East Union 3

The Lancers were able to bang out nine hits, but they not only could collect the big one, they couldn’t get the big one at Billy Hebert Field Friday.

East Union (2-2) got hits from eight different players, but only had one go for extra bases. Tokay only had eight hits, but coupled with bases on balls the Tigers were able to make the difference.

“It’s been two days in a row we’ve been able to put up some hits,” East Union head coach Dan Triglia said. “It’s nice to see the hitting side, but we have to continue to keep working on our pitching.”

Jordan Kron led the Lancers with a 2-for-3 effort, smashing a seventh inning two-RBI single with the bases loaded.  Justin Nieto started for East Union, not  getting out of the third and striking out three but walking four.

Cosumnes Oaks 11, Lathrop 2

Mikey Pereznegron led off the game with a homer, but it was not a preview of things to come in the Spartans 11-2 loss Friday.

Keenan Donatelli led the club going 2-for-3 with a run.

Preston Rizzo got the start, lasting just two innings before giving way to Jose Chavez and Donatelli.

“We need to find a way to limit free bases,” Lathrop head coach Randy Baltazar said.

Sophomore

Tokay 8, East Union 2

Kyle Emerson was 2-for-2 and both Marco Gonzalez and Todd Parcells were 2-for-3 for the Lancers in a losing effort.

Gabe Chavez was the losing pitcher, scattering four hits and striking out four.

East Union will try and get it figured out during a three-game week where the club will see Patterson, Tracy and Escalon.
