Alyssa Telles backed Jordan Vinsons 44 with a 48 in East Unions win at Oakdale Wednesday.

After a rough patch through the middle of the Valley Oak League season, sophomore Jordan Vinson is picking her game back up at just the right time for East Union's girls golf team.

Vinson posted a rock-solid 8-over-par 44 and was four strokes shy of Oakdale medalist Mabel Wong in a 245-268 win at Oakdale Golf and Country Club Wednesday.

The Lancers end the regular season with an 11-1 record and are in line to claim their fourth straight Valley Oak League victory.

East Union also got a solid performance from Alyssa Telles, who carded a 48 despite a quadruple bogey on the long par-3 ninth hole.

"This is what we need for our team to have a chance (in the postseason)," East Union coach Dennis Wells said. "We're real happy with our No. 5 and 6 girls coming on strong at the end of the season. Jordan did a real good job to be able to shoot a 44 on a tough course like that."

East Union had three players - Angelique Cardoza, Kailee Nuding, Brittany Ugalino - each contribute a 51 to round out the team score. Jenny Ketner, who plays with the top group, turned in the throw-out score of 52.

Sonora finished with one more loss than East Union, so the Wildcats still have a shot at earning at least a share of the title in the VOL Championships Monday at Pine Mountain Lake Golf Course in Groveland. Oakdale is in third place at 8-4, but Wong, a star freshman in the junior amateur circuit, is the runaway favorite for league MVP recognition.

"We want to go out and shoot a great round at the tournament, secure the VOL championship and hopefully take a little momentum for sections," Wells said.
