MODESTO — Sierra warded off a game Johansen club Wednesday night for a 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 sweep.
The Timberwolves are now 2-0 under first-year coach Eryn Bowers. Johansen dropped to 1-4.
“These young ladies played with heart and energy tonight,” Bowers said. “When we were down they fought back to put the pieces together and earn the ‘W.’”
Natalie Dias highlighted the attack with 10 kills to go with two blocks. Becca Thomson set 15 assists, and Stella Brierly turned in three service aces.
Sierra look to remain perfect in the early season tonight at Stagg.

Manteca 3, Chavez 0
Adriana Powell torched Chavez for 10 kills and 13 service points as the Buffaloes (3-1) made it a quick one at Winter Gym, 25-8, 25-12, 25-3.
They still got enough work in offensively with setter Therese Ferral feeding teammates for 21 assists. Camrenne Genilla was on the receiving end for seven kills, Karlie Spohn added six kills and five blocks and Kaylee MacDannald contributed four kills, two aces and 12 points. Abbey Kaddilak paced the defense with seven digs while scoring 13 service points and two aces.
Up next for Manteca is Bear Creek on the road tonight.

Tokay 3, Lathrop 0
LATHROP — The Spartans fell to 1-2 with the 20-25, 16-25, 22-25 setback.
Jahsita Fa’ali’i accumulated 11 kills and 14 digs, Jennifer Santillan had 19 assists and five digs and Hailey Hunter chipped in 19 digs and two aces. Ke’Mya Barrett and Charlene Bernal finished with three kills apiece. Non-league action continues Monday at Modesto.

Manteca 2, Chavez 0
The Buffaloes rolled to their fourth straight win to start the season, 25-19, 25-9.
Kim Yu powered the attack with seven kills with Isabella Pires providing eight assists. Ariana Lowery served 11 points and five aces.

Tokay 2, Lathrop 1
Lathrop stumbled to a 25-19, 10-25, 10-15 loss.
Lylliana Avila collected seven kills and 17 digs. Camila De La Garza contributed 15 assists, five digs and an ace. Godwina Ogbeide added four kills and three digs.

Sierra 2, Johansen 0
Elaina Threet racked up eight services aces to help Sierra (2-0) dominate, 25-11, 25-12.
Erica Tovar (four aces, three kills), Jenna Dalen (three aces, 12 assists), Alyssa Teicheira (two aces), Chisom Okolo (two kills) and Vivian Padilla (two kills) also aided the attack.

Alaba Olaleye pounded six kills, Liliana Navaro pitched in five and Mya Cabreros had nine assists as the Spartans tamed the Tigers, 25-17, 25-11.

The Timberwolves (2-0) coasted to a 25-3, 25-7 sweep behind Kim Vega’s six aces, Amelia Hernandez’s six kills and Rebecca Sutton’s 11 assists.
