MODESTO — There will be more than bragging rights on the line next Wednesday, Jan. 23 when Manteca hosts East Union for the final dual match of the regular season.
With powerhouse Oakdale going 5-0 at the Valley Oak League Duals held Wednesday at Central Catholic, the second and final berth to the Sac-Joaquin Section team tournament will come down to the two cross-town rivals.
Manteca and East Union both lost to Oakdale but defeated the rest of the opposition. Manteca notched a 54-27 win over Sierra and defeated Kimball 59-24, Central Catholic 63-12 and Weston Ranch, 58-4. East Union results were not available as of press time.
Azucena Rodriguez was among the standouts for the Buffaloes on Wednesday, going 4-0 in the 106-pound division competing against varsity boys. Dominik Neuharth was also 4-0 at 195. Winning four of five matches were Diego Rodriguez (113), Dominic Day (132) and Joseph Farrell (170).
