Miramontes solid in Manteca victory

LODI – Daniel Miramontes got it done on both sides of the ball for the Manteca freshman baseball team Thursday afternoon in a 7-2 win at Lodi.

Complementing a 3 for 4 day at the dish, Miramontes pitched five innings of three-hit ball, allowing two runs and striking out six.

Mikey Matthews (1 1/13 IP, 0 R) and Felix Hernandez (2/3 IP) closed it out.

“We’re playing well heading into league,” Buffaloes head coach Josh Ferris said. “We look forward to facing EU Tuesday.”

Manteca (5-1) also got nice afternoons from Angelo Strovens (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Hernandez ( 3 for 4) at the dish.

The Buffs head to Agostini Field Tuesday.

Sophomore

Sierra 6, Stagg 2


Jared Twomey pitched five scoreless innings and the T’Wolves nickel-and-dimed their way at the plate to collect the victory.

“We had timely hitting, good defense, and a great pitching performance from Jared,” Sierra head coach Greg Wilson said.

Up next for the Timberwolves (3-3) is a home meeting with West.

Softball
Oak Ridge 6, East Union 2


The Squires took a 2-1 lead into the sixth before Oak Ridge busted it open with a five-spot.

Kalyn Delao went six and a third and Kelsey Emmerson closed it out.

Cherisse Martin led the way at the plate, collecting two of EU’s four hits on the afternoon.

“We kept the game close until their bats came alive in the sixth,” EU head coach Ronnie Tiscareno said. “I’m happy with our performance.”

EU faces Armijo at 9 a.m. this morning and Rodriguez at 12:30 p.m.

Freshman

Sierra 22, Enochs 6

With the game knotted at five heading into the third, the Timberwolves smashed down the flood gates with an 11-run outburst.

Briane Lenoci’s two-run double highlighted the frame. Lenoci finished with two knock, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Victoria Schneider got the start and went the distance for Sierra (4-1-1), allowing just three hits and striking out five.

Shelby Shirron and Kayleah Boswell both had a pair of hits and three runs scored.

Morgan Faulkner added two more knocks and four runs scored, and Melissa kersey had two hits and two runs scored.
