KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Even the most muffled clap seemed to echo throughout Arrowhead Stadium last season as the Kansas City Chiefs plodded their way toward one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

A group of fans is trying to restore the roar.

When the Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, they will be trying to break a Guinness world record for loudest sports crowd roar in an outdoor sports stadium that was set earlier this year by Seahawks fans during a game against the 49ers.

The record is 136.6 decibels, or just below what a jet engine sounds like 100 feet away. The fans even have the support of the Chiefs, who paid for a Guinness adjudicator to fly to Kansas City for the record attempt.

Owners of Cowboys, 49ers aid Little Rock school

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The owners of two NFL teams, plus an anonymous donor, have pledged nearly $10 million to a fundraising campaign at Little Rock’s Catholic High School.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and San Francisco 49ers owner John York announced the gift at the school Thursday. York graduated from Catholic High in 1967 and Jones’ sons Stephen and Jerry Jr. graduated in 1983 and 1988. Jones’ son-in-law Shy Anderson graduated in 1981.

Catholic High’s current campus was built in 1960 and has not previously benefited from a major fund-raising campaign. The school recently added an artificial turf sports field and track and updated its cafeteria and gymnasium. It doesn’t have air-conditioning, which Principal Steve Straessle (STRAY’-slee) has said is needed to help computer equipment last longer.

Bears stop skid, beat winless Giants 27-21

CHICAGO (AP) — Jay Cutler had no trouble finding Brandon Marshall this time.

Tim Jennings struck early and late, and the Chicago Bears got the win they needed against a team still searching for its first victory.

Cutler threw two touchdown passes to Marshall, and Jennings had two of Chicago’s three interceptions against Eli Manning in a 27-21 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday night.

The Bears (4-2) snapped a two-game slide following a 3-0 start. New York is 0-6 for the first time since the 1976 team dropped its first nine, a stunning turn for a franchise that won the Super Bowl two years ago.
