Left-hander Sean Doolittle’s five-year contract with the Oakland Athletics is worth $10.5 million, and the deal would increase to $13.75 million if he becomes eligible for salary arbitration after this season.

Abreu back in the big leagues

NEW YORK (AP) — Bobby Abreu got a quick lesson in the Mets’ many uniform color combinations from an equipment guy, tried on a few belts in the clubhouse and then hugged new teammate Bartolo Colon.

Always smart for 40-year-olds to stick together in the big leagues. “Good to be back,” Abreu said.

The Mets called up Abreu from the minors on Monday night, hoping the former star outfielder can still provide a few key hits. He wasn’t in the starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals.

White Sox’s Sale headed to DL

DETROIT (AP) — Chicago White Sox left-hander Chris Sale is headed to the 15-day disabled list with what the team believes is a strained muscle in his throwing arm.The 25-year-old Sale threw 127 pitches in a loss to Boston on Thursday. He’s 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA on the season.
