Modesto Nuts sweep 4 game series against Lancaster Jethawks

LANCASTER  (AP) —Joe Rizzo hit a run-scoring single in the eighth inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 10-9 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Sunday. The Nuts swept the four-game series with the win.

The single by Rizzo scored Jack Larsen and was the game’s last scoring play.

The Nuts cut the deficit to 9-7 when Luis Liberato hit a two-run home run in the seventh.

Jake Haberer (2-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Hunter Williams (0-1) took the loss in the California League game.

Casey Golden homered and singled, scoring two runs for the JetHawks.

 MODESTO 3, LANCASTER 0: LANCASTER . (AP) —Connor Kopach scored on a fielder’s choice in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Modesto Nuts to a 3-2 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Saturday.

Kopach scored after he started the inning on second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.

The Nuts scored one run in the eighth before Lancaster tied the game 2-2 in the ninth when Casey Golden hit a solo home run.

Reliever Sam Delaplane (1-0) went two innings, allowing one run and one hit while striking out six to pick up the win. Tommy Doyle (0-1) went one inning, allowing one run in the California League game.

For the JetHawks, Ryan Vilade doubled and singled twice, also stealing a base.
