Nuts sweep Ports after Liberato’s walk-off hit

MODESTO (AP) — Luis Liberato had a walk-off double with two outs in the 10th inning, as the Modesto Nuts beat the Stockton Ports 6-5 on Thursday. With the victory, the Nuts swept the three-game series.

Evan White scored the game-winning run after he hit an RBI single.

The double by Liberato capped an improbable comeback for the Nuts, who scored four runs in the inning for the win. Kevin Santa and White hit RBI singles earlier in the inning to help set the stage for the game-winning score.

The Ports took a 5-2 lead in the top of the 10th when Viosergy Rosa hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run inning.

Both Modesto starter Ljay Newsome and Stockton starter Matt Milburn delivered strong pitching performances. Newsome went six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out eight. Milburn went 7 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and 10 hits. He also struck out five and walked one.

Collin Kober (1-0) got the win in relief while Angel Duno (4-3) took the loss in the California League game.

Rosa homered and singled, driving in two runs for the Ports.
