San Jose Giants top Ports behind Geraldo

SAN JOSE  (AP) — Manuel Geraldo tripled and doubled twice as the San Jose Giants topped the Stockton Ports 7-1 on Monday.

Heath Quinn homered and doubled with three RBIs for San Jose.

San Jose took the lead in the first when Diego Rincones hit a solo home run and Courtney Hawkins hit a two-run home run.

The Ports cut into the deficit in the third inning when Nico Giarratano scored on a forceout.

The Giants later added three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh. In the fifth, Quinn hit a three-run home run, while Geraldo hit an RBI triple in the seventh.

San Jose right-hander Tristan Beck (3-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on seven hits over seven innings. Opposing starter Xavier Altamirano (5-13) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.


GIANTS 6, PORTS 2: SAN JOSE  (AP) — Courtney Hawkins hit a three-run home run in the third inning, leading the San Jose Giants to a 6-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Sunday.

The home run by Hawkins scored Diego Rincones and David Villar to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.

The Ports cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Austin Beck hit a solo home run and Payton Squier hit an RBI double.

The Giants later added two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth. In the sixth, Fabian Pena and Aaron Bond both drove in a run, while Bond hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Manuel Geraldo in the eighth.

San Jose right-hander Casey Meisner (4-3) picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Bryce Conley (3-1) took the loss in the California League game after allowing three runs and four hits over four innings.

Beck homered and doubled for the Ports.


NUTS 4, RAWHIDE 3: MODESTO  (AP) —- Jorge Perez hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, leading the Visalia Rawhide to a 4-3 win over the Modesto Nuts on Monday.

The double by Perez scored Tim Susnara and Kevin Lachance and was the game’s last scoring play.

Max Murphy hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to give the Rawhide a 1-0 lead. The Nuts came back to take the lead in the fifth inning when Julio Rodriguez hit a two-run double and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Scheiner.

Visalia cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth when Jancarlos Cintron hit an RBI single, scoring Luis Alejandro Basabe.

Jose Cuas (1-1) got the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Scott Boches (2-7) took the loss in the California League game.

For the Nuts, Jose Caballero singled three times, also stealing two bases.


NUTS 6, RAWHIDE 3: MODESTO  (AP) — Jake Scheiner tripled, doubled and singled, driving home three runs and scoring a couple as the Modesto Nuts defeated the Visalia Rawhide 6-5 on Sunday.

Joe Rizzo singled four times with two runs for Modesto.

Up 2-1 in the third, Visalia extended its lead when Jancarlos Cintron hit a two-run double.

Modesto answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to cut into the Visalia lead. Scheiner hit a two-run double and then scored on a single by David Sheaffer en route to the tie.

The Nuts took the lead for good in the fifth when Connor Kopach hit an RBI double, driving in Scheiner.

Visalia saw its comeback attempt come up short after Anfernee Grier hit an RBI double, bringing home Jose Herrera in the eighth inning to cut the Modesto lead to 6-5.

Collin Kober (4-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief while Visalia starter Ryan Weiss (1-2) took the loss in the California League game.
