SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Jared Walsh hit a run-scoring double in the first inning to give the Inland Empire 66ers a 1-0 win over the Modesto Nuts on Monday.
Luis Rengifo scored on the play after he led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a groundout.
Matt Custred got Ben Gamel to fly out with a runner on second to end the game for his first save of the season.
Ryan Clark (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Modesto starter Darren McCaughan (0-1) took the loss in the California League game.
Bryson Brigman tripled and singled, also stealing a base for the Nuts.
