SAN JOSE (AP) —Gianfranco Wawoe hit a three-run triple in the second inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 7-1 win over the San Jose Giants on Monday.
The triple by Wawoe scored Joe DeCarlo, Jordan Cowan, and Ryan Scott to give the Nuts a 3-0 lead.
After Modesto added a run in the third on a single by Scott, the Giants cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Bryan Reynolds scored on a forceout.
The Nuts later added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the sixth, Cowan and Wawoe scored on an error, while Joey Curletta hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Luis Liberato in the seventh.
Bryan Bonnell (3-2) got the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while San Jose starter Mark Reyes (4-12) took the loss in the California League game.
