Rangers United dominate to win Winter Invitational

The Manteca Rangers United under-13 boys soccer team scored three victories of five or more goals en route to earning the championship this past weekend at the Modesto Ajax Winter Invitational. The tournament was host to over 70 teams.

Manteca amassed 21 goals in four games and yielded just one.

Host Modesto Ajax Elite provided the Rangers the stiffest challenge in the championship match, which Manteca won, 3-0.

The Rangers blew out Ajax Premier 6-0, Elk Grove Everton 7-1 and the Sonoma Strikers 5-0 in pool play.

Scoring goals were Manuel Nuno, Nate Edwards, Julio Rangel, Jahrie Gray, Marcus Mantano and Ryan Chaney. Austin Steinhart and Ramiro Ceja anchored the dominant play on defense.

“All of the players really stepped up this weekend and gave all that they had,” head coach Vince Meyer said.

Manteca will be in action again in two weeks in the California Youth Soccer Association State Cup National Championships.

Manteca FC Red Devils
The Manteca Futbol Club’s under-11 girls Red Devils won two games in indoor soccer action at Big League Dreams Saturday.

Manteca FC first rolled the under-12 Tracy Monarchs 9-0, with Jordyn Costa registering six goals. Daisy Talavera, Alyssa Taboa, Ariana Cardenas and Chloe Benham chipped in one goal each. Marcella Salyer recorded the shutout from goal.

The Red Devils were later edged by the under-12 Tracy Fireballs, 4-3. Tracy punched in the winning score with a minute remaining.
Manteca FC was down 3-1 in the second half before Kyndra Kiser struck twice and Costa booted in the equalizer.

California Cougars
A handful of Mantecans helped the California Cougars under-18 girls team take second in the Modesto Ajax United Wiinter Invitational in Turlock.

The Cougars dropped a 2-1 match to Modesto Ajax United Elite 92 after beating Bfut Academy Heat 2-0 and Modesto Ajax united 91, 3-0. The Cougars tied Davis Radiation 1-1 in the final match of preliminary play.

Sierra High’s Syndee Kosielecki contributed a goal against Modesto Ajax United’s 91 team, and Mariela Pimentel chipped in two assists.

Youth basketball
Dylan Gross, Kenji Breitenbucher, Carl Rice, Josh Hebert and Zach Chamberlain each contributed baskets in the Mavericks’ 15-6 victory over the Hawks in boys bantam division play Saturday at Golden West Gym.
