The Manteca Futbol Club Newcastle under-11 girls soccer team captured the NorCal Premier State Cup championship with a 4-2 victory over the Santa Rosa United Tremors Saturday at Woodland Community Park.

It was the rubber match between the two touted programs this season — Manteca FC got the better of the Tremors 1-0 in the Mustang Stampede, and Santa Rosa United got its revenge in the Elite 8 via a 3-2 victory.

Things started off swimmingly for the second-seeded Tremors, who led 1-0 at halftime. But during one 7-minute stretch of the second half, No. 4 Newcastle took full control with three quick goals from Lejla Pepic. Dayanna Hernandez and Selena Alvarez each contributed an assist during the onslaught.

Late in the contest, Alexis Vilarino headed home the final goal off a set piece to put the Tremors away for good.

Faith Chavez, Daisey Galindo and Linnea Natale anchored Newcastle’s midfield, while defenders Maddie Cuclich and Nathalie Munguia locked down the Tremors’ attackers — namely standout Aliya Shields — to keep the pressure off goalkeeper Andrea Eusebio.

Newcastle finished 8-0-1 during its State Cup campaign and outscored its opponents, 37-5. The preliminary round began in September. The final stages began Jan. 29 with a 3-0 win over No. 5 Mustang Pride, which was followed by a 1-0 upset of top-seeded El Dorado United Eclipse a day later.

The Manteca FC squad will be honored by Manteca’s City Council on March 1.
