Ripon Chiefs rally to stun Huskies

The Ripon Chiefs handed the Hughson Huskies their first loss of the season Saturday with 12 fourth-quarter points for a 28-20 come-from-behind win Saturday in Motherlode Valley Football League action at Ripon High School.

Ryan Daggett had three touchdowns for the Chiefs – two on the ground and the third on a touchdown pass to Michael Solario (14 rushes for 91 yards), who also ran for a touchdown.

The Ripon offensive line dominated a tough Hughson defensive line. Vincent Olmo and Derric Roy each recovered fumbles for the Knights.

 

Junior varsity

Chiefs 44, Huskies 8

Nico Ilardi had three first-half touchdown passes and two second-half scoring runs for the Chiefs.

Ilardi was 6 for 10 for more than 100 yards passing and his scoring throws were for 15 yards to Matthew Padilla (two receptions, 25 yards),  Mason Knight for 17 yards and Danny Hernandez for 26 yards. Beau Dionio had two receptions. 

Ilardi scored on runs of 20 and 35 yards and Grant Wiebe added a 2-yard touchdown run and led a powerful ground game that included Gunner Bertsch, Dorian Dougherty and Aaron Wood.

Tommy Campbell and Aaron Wood each had an interception for Ripon and Padilla had a fumble recovery. Nathan Valdez was 4 for 6 on conversion kicks.

 

Jr. Novice

The Chiefs had seven touchdowns and held the Huskies scoreless.

Seth Van Dyk had two touchdowns for Ripon – one on offense and the other after he stripped the ball from the Huskies running back.

Dru Orlando, Zander Franco and Stephen Dillman each scored for the Chiefs on breakaway runs set up by the offensive line. Xavier Clark and Austin Wood rounded out the Ripon scoring parade.

The Chiefs allowed Hughson just one first down and was led by Van Dyk, Franco and Jesse Ochoa.
