The Lancer Youth Wrestling Club returned home from Ceres with four San Joaquin Wrestling Association Tournament titles Sunday.

At Central Valley High, the squad captured the intermediate-level team championship while three individuals earned first-place medals.

Two of the individual titlists helped anchor the Lancers’ contingent of intermediate-level standouts. Tyler Diaz battled his way to the 60-pound title, while Armando Torres topped the 120-pound field. Ethan Rullan (60) and Anthony Vega (112) were runners-up in their respective weight divisions, and Isaiah Ford (65) placed third.

Also taking first was Trinidad Diaz in the 70-pound novice class. Vincent Marquez (84, school boy) finished second; Branden Rullan (77, school boy), Jason Betlej (91, school boy) and Austin Pignatarao (265, school boy) were all third; and Jaysen Reindel (136, school boy) ended up fourth.

Up next for the team is the 44th Annual Northern California Tournament of Champions. Betlej, Marquez and Reindel are the Lancers’ lone qualifiers for this prestigious event set to take place March 10 at Del Oro High in Loomis.

Then on March 17-18 is the USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Kids Championships at Fresno’s Selland Arena.

The Lancers are still accepting signups for the freestyle season. They practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at East Union High. For more information, visit www.mantecafreestyleclub.com.
