Sharks go 4-0 in Winter League playoffs for championship

ACAMPO — The Manteca Area Soccer League under-10 girls all-stars completed their Bill Meyer Winter League season with an 11-0-3 record and the championship. The Sharks went 4-0 in the season-ending playoffs at Oak View School this past weekend.
Ariana Cardenas accounted for four of the team’s six tournament goals to lead the way. Paige Gines and Britney Moneyhun each scored in a 2-1 victory over Merced in the opener. Sierra Martinez, Kaleigh Doyle, Kaitlyn Funsch, Patricia Tajii and Pheobe Roberts added an assist apiece.
The Sharks opened the tournament against two teams responsible for two of their ties. First was Merced 2, which fell, 2-1. They went on to beat Modesto 1 2-1, Stockton 1-0 and Modesto 2 2-0 in the title round.
Bailey Glover and Doyle took turns protecting the Sharks’ goal, and they each recorded a shutout. Aleah Jarin, Allison Hoyer and Allison Bitle were a force on the MASL all-star team’s back line throughout, and Chloe Benham anchored the middle.

Under-11 Pumas
Playing a man down with no substitute, the under-11 girls Pumas still shutdown Modesto Real in a 2-0 indoor-league victory in Turlock.
Goalies Isabella Cardenas and Alexis Phillips combined at goal for the shutout, and defensders Jasmine Basuil and Rebekah Bonds stood out on the defensive end. Miram Garibay scored both goals.
