You know it’s a good day when the throw-out score is a 5-over-par 42.

In one of the more impressive team rounds in recent Manteca Park Golf Course history, Sierra shot an unbelievable 195 Wednesday afternoon in a 23-shot win over East Union.

The Lancers’ 218 was East Union’s best round of the season, and it was highlighted by Kyle Harman’s medalist effort, a 1-under-par 36, but it wouldn’t be enough to thwart the surging Timberwolves.

Missing on a pair of eagle putts, Sammy Matts led the way with a 37, while both Miguel Dominguez and Luis Zepeda were just a stroke back at 38.

Dominguez missed a birdie putt, as did Harman, who lipped out the would-be 35 putt on nine.

“It was a very good day, both for us and for East Union,” Timberwolves head coach Jeff Williams said. “Harman had a great day, so did Sammy, and Miguel and Luis.

“Both sides have a bunch of great kids.”

Michael Hajenga turned in a 40, and both Joey Matts and Paul Michaleto turned in a 42, splitting throw-out honors with a mark that would top many Valley Oak League scorecards on most days.

“We met our goal, which was to shoot 200,” Williams said. “And East Union is improving every time out – all of the kids did a great job.”

Jordan Duvall and Ryan Plum both shot 45’s for the Lancers, while Tanner Bragg and Guillermo Barajas finished with 46’s.

Sierra (7-0 VOL, 9-0) travels to Central Valley this afternoon while the Lancers host Sonora.

Sonora 225, Manteca 266 (Tuesday)

Manteca didn’t have its best outing Tuesday at Manteca Park and Sonora took advantage in the win.

Kenny Summers shot a 47 and Jeremy Resuello carded a 53.

Both Casey Benson and Tyler Canady turned in 55, and Nick Gonzales shot a 56.

Jared Woolf had the throw-out, a 60.

Manteca (1-7 ) travels to Oakdale today.
