Spartans open VOL play with 20-run outpouring

WESTON RANCH — Lathrop kicked off Valley Oak League play with a 20-11 win over Weston Ranch Wednesday afternoon.

Jaime Christofferson was 4 for 5 with a homerun and a double, five RBIs and four runs scored.

Ernie Garcia had a pair of knocks, three runs scored and two more batted in and finished off the sixth and seventh on the bump.

Garcia rung up six batters on the afternoon, and starter Oscar Calix sent down three by way of strikes.

Anthony Nunez went 2 for 6 with a triple and two RBIs for Weston Ranch.

Tracy 6, East Union 5

In Tracy, the Squires (3-1) couldn’t hold onto an early 5-0 lead and gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh for their first loss of the season.

“We got short on pitching and it showed,” East Union coach Mike James said. “We played tough. I liked what (starting pitcher) Colby Seibel did for us today — he was nails.”

Seibel gave up one run on one hit and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. Justin Dias highlighted the offense with two RBIs.

East Union faces Tokay in Lodi Friday.

At Kofu Park in Lodi, East Union (1-1) hit on all cylinders to even its non-league mark.

John Olague (2B), Bryson Stonum (two SBs) and Brock Swift (2B) each went 2 for 3, and Joshua Bonds finished 2 for 2 with two steals.

Zac Carrillo was solid from the hill, striking out five in four innings. Stonum was clutch in three innings of relief, getting out of one inning unscathed after loading the bases with no outs.
