STOCKTON — Northgate had two good innings Saturday before things started to come apart and eventually lost 11-1 to Morada in opening-round action of the Little League 10-11 Section 6 All-Star Tournament at Western Little League’s Arnold L. Zurligen Field in Stockton.

Northgate forced a 1-2-3 inning in the first with third baseman Ivan Vieira in on all three outs. Vieira helped keep the Northgate attack up in the second inning, starting a 5-4-3 double play with second baseman Xavier Mendez and first baseman Justin Severson.

Then came the third inning. Morada started playing patient baseball, drawing the first two of 13 walks issued by Northgate, with 10 coming in the last two innings. Morada got two runs in the third and leading 2-1 going into the fifth picked up nine runs in the final two frames.

Lucas Krenz came off the bench to lead off the fourth inning with a double for Northgate, the only leadoff hit of the game for Northgate and the fourth being the only inning for a Northgate runner to reach with less than two outs.

Cunial hit a shot to second following Krenz’s double, and the throw to first was off the mark, allowing Krenz to score from second.

Northgate loaded the bases in the first inning but could not capitalize. Tyler Looney reached on a two-out error by the catcher on strike three, Ivan Vieira the singled for the only other Northgate hit and Dylan Lee walked to load the bases. That is how the inning would end.

Northgate faces either Tracy American or Morada today at 5:30 p.m. in the consolation game.
