Stanislaus States Kron named to All-Region teams

Jordan Kron wrapped up his college career at Stanislaus State with several awards.

Most recently, the 2013 East Union graduate was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division II West All-Region second team. 

Kron finished 8-3 with a 2.31 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings as the ace pitcher for Stanislaus State (34-18). He’s the first Warrior to record consecutive eight-win seasons.

He was also named to the Conference Commissioners Association Division II All-Region second team, earned National College Baseball Writers Association All-Region honorable mention and is an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association first-team selection.

Kron played four varsity sports (football, baseball, soccer, basketball) at East Union and signed to UC Riverside, where he pitched for two seasons.

 

Local standouts reunite in WCWS

Former Valley Oak League rivals Allie Walljasper (Sierra) and Cherish Burks (East Union) were at USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City for a Women’s College World Series elimination game on Saturday.

Walljasper pitched 2 2/3 innings for LSU (48-22), making its third straight WCWS appearance, before getting his with a batted ball on her pitching hand. Third-seeded Oregon (54-8) won 4-1 before falling to defending champion Oklahoma 4-2 in the semifinals Sunday. Burks did not play against LSU but stole a base as a pinch runner in the semifinal.

Burks finished her sophomore year with a .333 batting average and 10 runs scored in 30 games played. Walljasper (18-6, 1.61 ERA, 101 Ks) was named All-Louisiana collegiate Pitcher of the Year  and is a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American third-team selection.
