LATHROP — At least 2,500 people are going to get down and dirty Saturday at Dell’Osso Family Farm off Interstate 5 at Manthey Road.

That’s how many have signed up for the spring edition of the Mud on the Farm competition. Last September saw 3,100 people compete in the Mud on the Farm. In April 2012 the national Survivor Mud Run series drew 10,000 competitors to Lathrop over two days.

Saturday’s 5K run has 15 obstacles. They are the mud pit, hill climb, pumpkin mash, water slide, military tires, ditch walk, hurdles, drain ditch, mystery hurdle, monkey bars, mystery hurdle, hay pyramid, viewing platform, and two versions of mud hell.

Because of the large number of participants, the Mud Run must start in waves. The first wave goes off at 8 a.m. Participants select their wave time during the registration process. If mudders want to run with a friend or group, they need to be sure to book at the same time or have one person purchase all the individual tickets. Waves are capped at 300 runners. It’s recommend that participants arrive at least an hour before their wave time begins.

Wave times are at 20-minute intervals starting at 8 a.m. The last wave goes off at 12:40 p.m.

“There is still space available so people can come out Saturday and join one of the waves,” noted Susan Dell’Osso.

Entry fee is now $65, and entrants can register on line at www.mudonthefarm.com. Mud Runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt and finisher’s medal, post-race beer garden with one free beer only for mudders 21 years and older, plenty of prizes and trophies.

Runners must be 12 years old to participate.
