The Ripon Police Department could soon have a new police patrol unit.
Thanks to the generosity of community members and business folks, the Ripon Police Department recently received a donation of $51,650 to go towards the purchase of the vehicle.
At Tuesday’s Ripon council meeting, elected leaders will discuss this sizeable donation in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.
According to the staff report, Chief Ed Ormonde was contacted by local businessman and community member Rick Van Unen, who was aware of the department’s aging patrol fleet.
About two months ago, he advised Ormonde of his fundraising intentions. Unen informed police in late August that fundraising efforts had surpassed the goal of $51,000.
