The disappearance of a 16-year-old East Union High School junior has visibly shaken his Manteca family.

Shanhdip (Shan) Bhangal was last seen between 3 and 4 a.m. Tuesday when he drove away from his home in his 2001 silver Honda Accord. His license plate number 4SIP971 was noted in the missing person’s report filed with the Manteca Police Department.

His distraught parents say they have talked to his friends asking if they know of his whereabouts – nothing has turned up however.

East Union School Resource Officer Eva Steele has also been talking with friends hoping to find an answer to his disappearance.

Police said Thursday that the teen has no history of running away from home in the past, but they are listing his status as that of a possible runaway/missing person.

Shandip’s parents are asking that members of the community be on the lookout for his car while they are driving on the road to help the family locate their son and hopefully notify the Manteca Police Department.

A message to the teen from his parents:

“Shan, If you read this please come home. Everyone is crying and missing you. Just please at least call us so we know you are OK.”

Shan stands about 5-foot-10 and weighs about 160 pounds. Eyes are brown and his hair is black. He wears glasses.
