Black History Month is being celebrated with a series of events on Saturday, March 2, at the Manteca Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6311 on Moffat Boulevard.
It includes an exhibition that is open to the public free of charge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The doors will reopen at 5 p.m. for a dinner that starts an hour later at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $15 and children are $8. No tickets will be sold at the door.
The exhibition will include:
video of the Tuskegee fighter pilot airmen
Afro-centric Art
an African American Band
a slideshow on the history of black veterans
a display of artifacts
VFW Commander Bill Canfield said the post “takes pride” in presenting its first annual Black History Exhibition and Dinner.
“We would like to invite the public to join us in celebrating our brothers and sisters of color, who presently and historically, have contributed enormously to the fabric of American culture and prosperity,” Canfield said. “Our membership is proud to acknowledge the unique and exceptional sacrifices that our African-American comrades have endured in the process of defending America’s freedoms. At the VFW Post 6311 we have embraced the month of February as a tribute to Black History and the black veterans among us who are an integral part of that history.”
