East Union inducts four tonight into 2022 Hall of Fame

East Union High will induct four more notable alums at tonight’s 2022 Hall of Fame Ceremony.

The enshrinement will take place prior to the Lancer girls’ varsity basketball game against visiting Manteca High. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Honored at Bill Stricker Court at the Dalben Center will be Maurice Agostini, Darrell Hardcastle, Nancy Lewallen and Armando Avino.

All have been outstanding members of the Lancers family, according to school officials.

Avino, who is a 1991 EU grad, was a three-sport athlete. He played basketball and was drafted by the Houston Astros in baseball.

But it was football that Avino pursued after graduation, attending the University of Nevada, where he was an outstanding kicker – Avino held the record for longest career punting average, which stood for 25 years.

The late “Augie” Agostini passed away in 2009, and will be represented by his family. The baseball field was named in his honor.

Agostini was a major supporter of various school functions, and helped launched EU Athletic Boosters Club. He was inducted to the City of Manteca Hall of Fame in 2001.

Hardcastle was a standout football and baseball player for the Lancers. He later taught and coached baseball at EU. His teams won six Valley Oak League championships and captured a Sac-Joaquin CIF title in 1998.

Hardcastle was name baseball coach of the year five times along with teacher of the year during his many years in education.

Lewallen was a member of the school’s classified staff for nearly 30 years.

She wore many hats during her time at EU, which became her second home Her daughters and grandchildren also attended the school.
