Good turnout for Ripon’s annual Veterans Day Observance event

The Veterans Day Observance in Ripon once again brought out the numbers on Tuesday.

The Ripon Consolidated Fire District hoisted up the flag high above the Veterans Wall and Museum, using one of the ladder trucks.

The Ripon High JROTC provided the colors while the school choir performed the National Anthem.

Isabella Smith led in the Pledge of Allegiance during this 16th annual community-wide event co-sponsored by the American Legion Clinton McCausland Post 190 and VFW Adrian Fondse Post 1051.

Veterans Day – a national holiday – honors and thanks those who served in the U.S. armed forces, evolving from its original inception as Armistice Day into the Nov. 11 celebration in 1954 following World War II and the Korean War.

Veterans Day in Ripon kicked off that morning with Rob Omohundro doing the opening bugle call and Jonathan Mathews of American Legion Post 190 serving as emcee.

He welcomed those in attendance including elected leaders and dignitaries.

Pastor Lee Anderson of Big Valley Community Church gave the invocation while Councilman Leo Zuber was the guest speaker.

One of the highlights of the special community event was the placing of the Veterans Honor Wreath by the local American Legion and VFW, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 190 and VFW Post 1051 Ladies Auxiliary.
