Richard Barries is the newest police captain of the Lathrop Police Department.

The announcement was made Thursday via social media.

A Bay Area native and current resident of Stockton, Barries brings plenty experience to local police.

Prior to joining the Lathrop Police Department, he served as Chief of Police for the Stockton Unified School District.

Barries’ previous public safety experience also includes the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, East Palo Alto Police Department, and Stanford University. Captain Barries also served as the Chapter President for the Central Valley Chapter of NOBLE (National Organization for Black Law Enforcement Executives).

As for his duties for LPD, he’ll oversee the Support Services Division which includes Detectives, Property and Evidence, Records, School Resource Officers, and the Animal Center.

Last month, the City of Lathrop officially appointed Stephen Sealy as Chief of Police. He had served as interim police chief for the past five months.
