. A special presentation of gift cards and T-shirts will be given to the Manteca Unified School District.
Organizers are inviting the community to join them as they promote a kinder and more peaceful community. Refreshments will be served following the program.
The International Day of Peace, established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, is observed around the world each year on the 21st of September. The theme this year is “Actions for Peace.”
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Around the world lives are being ripped apart, childhoods extinguished, and basic human dignity discarded, amidst the cruelty and degradations of war.” We believe that we must begin at the local level to effect change to those conditions.
From peacekeepers on the frontlines of conflict, to community members, to students in classrooms around the world - everyone has a role to play. We must speak up against violence, hate, and discrimination; practice respect; and embrace the diversity of our world.
Though this event cannot change the whole world, organizers said MICA hopes to “inspire and motivate our community to live in peace and harmony with our fellow man. One way to accomplish this is by serving and working together. Peace is a call to action – we can let our actions for peace resonate louder than words.”
