Only one contested school board seat in Manteca, Ripon

The San Joaquin County Register of Voters office released the latest candidates list for the Nov. 5 election on Thursday.

The only race among the local school boards will take place in Manteca Unified Trustee Area 7.

Bob Wallace and Kelly Alvarez are seeking the seat currently occupied by Marisella Guerro, who apparently opted against a second term.

Wallace served on the MUSD board from 2016 to 2020.

He and Alvarez will be vying to serve as the representative of the area west of Manteca to Lathrop, to a far south to the Mossdale Elementary School neighborhoods.

Returning to the school board will be Eric Duncan in Trustee Area 1 and Melanie Greene in Trustee Area 3 – both filed for another four years.

At Ripon Unified, Caroline Hutto and Harpal Chandar will continue to represent Trustee Area 4 and Trustee Area 5, respectively.

Both are unopposed in this election.

Hutto is the current school board president while Chandar was the provisional appointment picked to complete the term previously held by Christina Orlando, who resigned in June.

In Lathrop, the big race is for mayor. Sonny Dhaliwal, who is the current mayor, is in the running for San Joaquin County Board of Supervisor District 3, and is going against former Manteca elected leader DeBrum.

Looking to become the next mayor (two-year term) of the City of Lathrop are current Councilmember Paul Akinjo along with Paul Camarena, Diana Radonic, and Mansoor Fazel.

Jennifer Torres-O’Callaghan and Minnie “Cotton” Diallo will be seeking re-election on the Lathrop City Council. They’ll be challenged by former elected leader Steve Dresser in the at-large election.

No changes are in store on the Ripon City Council as Mayor Leo Zuber, Vice Mayor Daniel de Graaf, and Gary Barton were unchallenged in their bid for re-election.
